A Year In Review: 2014 At Karin’s Florist

With the New Year right around the corner, we thought it would be fun to look back at 2014 at Karin’s Florist.

The year of 2014 started off with snow, lots of it! Karin’s was still there taking all your flower orders!

In a brief respite from the snow, we had a chance to celebrate Super Bowl Sunday in floral style!

Speaking of the Super Bowl, the “Super Bowl” at a florist is of course Valentine’s Day. Just like in the NFL, the show must go on even in the snow! Here are our store front windows, before and after the V-day winter storm of 2014!

2014 was also another banner year for press for Karin’s Florist!

After surviving the repeated onslaught of mother nature in the form of snow, out came the May flowers and Mother’s Day was celebrated. Karin’s aim — and we like to think we succeeded, was to put as many smiles on as many faces as possible with flowers!

In May, we also entered the Vase Off All-Stars Challenge. This was a floral design competition with the nation’s top design talent. Bryan Swann represented Karin’s Florist and… won!

Being located in Vienna, we’re lucky to be in the vicinity of some great high schools like James Madison and Oakton HS. With prom season, Karin’s is the go-to florist for all of the student’s corsages and boutonnieres! Body flowers are of keen importance during this time. Also pictured, are the winners of our 2014 Prom Package Contest!

A key focus at Karin’s is giving back to the local community. Each month in 2014, the ‘Karin’s Gives Back’ program gave back to very important causes. In June, proceeds of the ‘Celebrate Life’ arrangement went to INOVA’s Life with Cancer Family Center.
This is a program we will be continuing in 2015, and it’s one we’re very proud of.

Speaking of 2015, Karin’s is very much looking forward to the World Police & Fire Games coming to town! It is a global event and next year it is occurring right in Fairfax county! Here, we’re pictured with the WP&FG mascot.

In July, while some of our staff were attending the AIFD Symposium in Chicago, we were at Karin’s HQ, marveling at the social media phenomenon of #FlowerBeards. Yes, it’s an internet meme with its own hashtag.

This past summer, we also did an in-house 2014 Designer Showcase Collection. Each of our talented designers created a floral arrangement. It was a friendly competition to see which design was the most popular! It brought the best out of everyone and resulted in some amazing designs.

If you attended a show at Wolf Trap in 2014 and noticed their lovely flowers, they were from Karin’s Florist! Karin’s works with Wolf Trap to provide all of their flower arrangements, making those summer concerts, events, and dinners, even more special.

In August, it was a pure thrill to see our industry friends at SAF’s annual conference in Florida. There are always new things to learn in the ever-evolving floral industry, filled with such talented designers and interesting personalities.

Here was Lady Gaga gracing us in a flower crown on steroids–because, awesome!

With summer coming to a conclusion, we had our store windows decorated with floral art displays for autumn! We also readied our stunning 2014 Fall Collection.

In October, Karin’s was very excited to provide the flowers for the Lord & Taylor Homecoming Fashion Show, at Tyson’s Corner!

And four days before Halloween, Karin’s Florist celebrated 58 years!

In November, Karin’s had its 7th Annual Open House, where we opened our doors everyone in the community. And no open house would be complete without the Red Hat Ladies! Be sure to attend the 2015 Open House, just to get a chance to meet them!

We even had our wintry holiday windows on full display, including our festive holiday decor!

We didn’t forget the turkey. Yes, that’s a cake!

We hope you shopped at Karin’s for Small Business Saturday, this past November 29th!

And so with December, came Holiday Cheer and delicious gift baskets!

It wouldn’t be December without counting down the days to Christmas! And lots of holiday decor.

Merry Christmas from the Karin’s family. It’s a gift to be able to serve our loyal customers for over 50 years!

We would just like to thank all of our customers and staff for making 2014 a great year. To say it went by fast is an understatement and we look forward to another great year in 2015. Happy New Year from Karin’s Florist!
