At Karin’s Florist, we’re fortunate to work with some of the most beautiful flowers from around the world. While roses, hydrangeas, lilies, and tulips are always favorites, every so often something arrives that even our designers stop to admire.

However, you probably won’t see many of these flowers on our website. Since they’re often available in very limited quantities, we may only receive a few stems at a time. That makes them a special treat for customers who visit our shop or for anyone looking for something truly one of a kind. If you love unusual flowers, just ask. We never know what amazing treasures might have arrived!

So, that’s why we’re launching our new Mystery Flower blog series.

Whenever an unusual bloom, tropical stem, exotic foliage, or flower you’ve probably never seen before arrives at our shop, we’ll feature it here. We’ll share what it is, where it comes from, how it’s used in floral design, and some fun facts that make it so special.

Whether you’re a flower enthusiast, a gardener, or simply someone who appreciates beautiful things, we hope you’ll enjoy discovering these botanical treasures along with us.

So now, our first mystery flower:

At first glance, you might think someone stuck a tiny pineapple on a stem…

That’s because they did!

Our very first Mystery Flower is the Ornamental Pineapple (Ananas comosus), one of the most conversation-starting stems we carry.

Unlike the pineapples you’ll find in the grocery store, these miniature ornamental varieties are grown specifically for the floral industry. Their vibrant red and burgundy coloring, tropical texture, and whimsical appearance make them a favorite for high-end floral arrangements and event designs.

Here are a few fun facts:

• They belong to the bromeliad family, making them cousins to many popular tropical houseplants.
• Each miniature pineapple is a real fruit, just much smaller than the edible varieties you’re used to seeing.
